We are a place of meaningful relationships with God, our neighbor, and one another.
Just as Christ extended his hands to us, we:
open our hands to receive God’s blessings
uplift our hands to praise our God
outstretch our hands in care for our neighbors and all of creation.
Gloria Dei Lutheran Church — a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America — is located at 300 Shunpike Road in Chatham, NJ. Each and every week, we gather to worship our Lord, celebrating God’s good gifts. Sunday worship services begin at 10:00 AM, with children attending Sunday School following the children’s sermon, and we also offer a shorter and more contemplative service at 8:30 AM. All Christians are welcome to receive communion, which is part of every Sunday worship service.
We worship our God liturgically — that is, we use a set liturgy, a combination of hymns, prayers. and Scripture readings that reflect the season of the Church year (Christmas, Easter, Pentecost). More importantly, though, the liturgy is the “work of the people.” Pastors, choirs, and others may lead the worship, but God’s praise is sung by the whole congregation, and we pray as one body in Christ.
Worship is focused on:
- Gathering — We are reunited so that we may experience support and encouragement as we seek to honor God.
- Receiving the Word — We hear the Word read from Scripture and interpreted through the sermon and the hymns.
- Sharing the Meal — All baptized Christians are welcome as we savor God’s mercy and love in the sacrament of Holy Communion.
- Sending forth — We are sent into the world to live our faith and to serve God by serving our neighbor.

Children are always welcome in the life of this community. Sunday school is available for children age 3 - 6th grade. Nursery care is provided as well. We celebrate the ways that caring for children is a witness to God’s good love.
