Tag Sale — April 24, 9-2

April 19th, 2010

It’s tag sale season – time to help the earth (by making efficient use of “stuff”), help the congregation (support our nursery), and give to our neighbor (proceeds also go to the Hoboken Shelter, and unsold items to the Settlement House).

Thanks to all who volunteered, donated, and shopped — before our matching gift from Thrivent, over $2,000 was raised to support ministries to children and the homeless.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

An Evening Concert with Tom Booth and Carol Bayard

April 8th, 2010

Friday, April 9, 7:30 PM

All are welcome!

Minister of Music, Tom Booth

“We are thrilled to have this evening to enjoy the songs that Tom and Carol offer,” said Pastor Eric Trozzo of Gloria Dei. “Tom is a gifted musician with a talent for making music accessible and meaningful to everyone. We are glad to have this opportunity for him to share his gifts here beyond Sunday worship.”

While admission to the concert is free, attendees are encouraged to offer a freewill donation toward Gloria Dei’s Music Scholars Program, which is an outreach program linking students from Drew University with the congregation through music programs.

Booth has had a long and varied musical career that includes more than 20 years in New York City as a conductor, coach/accompanist, cabaret pianist and singer, organist and music teacher. He has opera-conducting credits that include the New York City Opera, San Francisco Opera and companies from Rhode Island to California and Michigan to Texas. Bayard, the wife of Tom Booth, was a leading soprano for more than 10 years with the New York City Opera and has sung with many major opera companies and symphonies in the United States, including those in San Francisco, Houston, Fort Worth, Atlanta, Cleveland, Michigan and Ohio.

We hope you’ll join us on Friday night!

Through generous contributions, Lutheran World Relief has been able to put $6 million towards Haiti earthquake relief — that is in addition to the work that has been done in Haiti over the last 15 years, which had built communities outside of Port-au-Prince that now are able to receive those seeking not only refuge, but a new life.

Please take a few minutes to watch this video to see how your dollars are being shared and where the Church can continue to meet the needs of God’s children in Haiti.
